4 Ways You Can Start a Travel Lifestyle

With the world having opened up and the amount of opportunities out there, making travel a lifestyle has never been easier. There are so many avenues you can use to your advantage to start a travel lifestyle using the internet and saving some money in the process to help fund your world travel. If you are smart about it, travel will quickly become a lifestyle for you.

However, you do need to make travel a priority in your life if you wish to do so. What I mean by this is that I always hear people say, “I wish I could travel as much as this person,” or, “Wouldn’t it be good to see this place and that place?” Yes, it would be good, and it is entirely possible for you to do so. Unfortunately, you have many other priorities in your life above travel.

Some of these priorities are genuine and important, like family. For the most part, what is holding people back is money or time. These are both things that you can start generating more of in order to start a travel lifestyle.

Here is how…

start a travel lifestyle

4 Ways You Can Start a Travel Lifestyle

  1. Working a 9 to 5
  2. This scenario is for those that are working a 9 to 5 job and do not want to quit, but you want to travel more. That is completely fine. I know many people who are completely comfortable with having the security that their job offers them, but they also want to travel more. Do not quit. If that job is important to you, it may not be worth it to quit it. Maybe you do enjoy your job. But, if you want to travel you need to save some money and have some time.

Create a savings account, preferably a high interest savings account, and start budgeting the amount of money you can put away into this account each paycheck. Eventually you will see this amount start to build up. You will be surprised how quickly you are able to save for your next trip if you have some sort of automated amount of money each month that goes into this account. Automated is best in this case because you will not have to think about putting it away, it will be done for you.

Then, you need to decide when you can go on a vacation. Sometimes with a job, you do not get the right amount of vacation time to go away. First, use the time that you are provided by your employer. If you want to go on a longer trip, ask for a leave of absence. You would be surprised what happens if you just ask. What is the worst case scenario? They say no?

You can still travel on weekends. Venturing out to a new destination in your own country is still travel. Alternatively, you could add a vacation day to a long weekend, or make it a long weekend and go away somewhere for a few days. Take advantage of that time that you have.

  3. Work a Remote Job
  4. This is the time of the digital nomad. People who work online, working for a company that allows them to work from anywhere in the world while earning an income. You can find design jobs, marketing jobs, and so much more available to you online!

This option is really for anybody! There is so much opportunity out there for you to find jobs. Go to We Work Remotely to find listings for these remote jobs. There are also teaching jobs available online where you can teach English to somebody overseas to earn a good part time income. Join a Facebook group about digital nomads or working remotely and start asking questions. Often times a job posting will pop up on these groups as well! You can do contract work for companies, or sometimes even become a full time employee, all the while building your skills and travelling the world after working hours.

The good thing about this is that you can earn a good salary AND live somewhere with a low cost of living, and therefore saving so much more of your money.

  5. Leverage Your Skills to Start Your Own Business
  6. If you have the skills to be a designer, online marketing skills, or branding skills, use these online to start your own business, start getting clients, and decide if this income provides you with enough to live somewhere else while working with these clients. The best part of this is that you can get started on it while still working your regular job. You can get a taste for it before you even dive right into it.

There are so many strategies to start getting clients to your business. You need to start by creating a website, social media accounts, expanding your knowledge, becoming an expert in a certain field, and start networking to get clients.

It is certainly possible using the tools available to you these days to conduct all of your business online without ever meeting face-to-face. Now, this is not for everybody. Taking a leap into starting your own business can be risky and scary. This could still be a good side hustle for those interested, and maybe one day you will be ready and more prepared to take that leap!

  7. Creatives
  8. If you are a creative person, then start creating. Create a blog, vlog, podcast, whatever it may be that you want to create and put out into the world to start earning an income. The important point for this avenue is that you need to start creating. If you have not yet started, start now! It will take a little while before you start seeing some income from this avenue.

You also need to be creative as to how you generate income from this avenue. Ads are the most common way of earning money from blogs, vlogs, podcasts, etc. This requires that you have a significant amount of traffic coming to your platform and this can take some time to achieve. Affiliate marketing is another great way to earn some money, but this requires an engaged audience.

I left this avenue to start a travel lifestyle for last because it is the most difficult way to start travelling the world. Money will not come right away for this style. However, you can leverage your skills to help others. For example, if you are a vlogger, you can help people edit their videos for money or if you are a podcast producers, you can produce other peoples podcasts.

You should be willing to put yourself out there with your content and not worried about what others may think.

In this day and age, there are so many ways for you to start a travel lifestyle. Some of them less risky than others. First and foremost, you need to make travel a priority in your life if you want to make it a lifestyle. That means becoming smart with your money and time.
